A-List or D-List, Lorena Sarbu, Rafael Cennamo, and Reem Acra Can Make Anyone a Starlet!

Not that I’m ever really in need for a ball gown but today, with so many A-listers and an increasingly growing entertainment industry, the need for luxury eveningwear is only becoming stronger. For Fall/Winter 2012, designers Lorena Sarbu, Rafael Cennamo, and Reem Acra are in my forefront for red carpet staples.

Up-and-comers Lorena Sarbu and Rafael Cennamo made strong statements with beautifully ornate and bejewelled pieces.

Lorena was right on trend with tons of cobalt blue, emerald, and metallic tones. Crystals, fishnet lace, embroidery, beading, appliqués, organza flowers, ostrich feathers, and laser cut details all elevated flirty, feminine, and flattering silhouettes to Oscar proportions. While short cocktail dresses had me thinking of Heidi Klum or a music mogul’s lady, slinky long gowns screamed belle of the ball.

Rafael, on the other hand, focused more on styling and drapery to create an ethereal red carpet vision. Equally as embellished and jewel-toned, Cennamo presented more structured pieces utilising beyond bedazzled textiles (and even some chinchilla and zocarra fur). Yestadt Millinery provided crowns and headgear for the girls to wear on their tossled, powdered heads only intensified the drama.

Reem Acra, who started out in bridal, is now making a name for herself in ready-to-wear. For this season, the designer channels “feminine power” with a presentation of leather, lace, and chiffon silhouettes. A black tile runway was just the right touch for sleek and confident clothes. While there were jewelled statement dresses and provocative gowns with peek-a-boos, the collection was really a compilation of my ideal day-to-night pieces. Strong enough for the corporate working woman, easy enough for happy hour.

Overall however, all three designers showed a lovely plethora of silks, sophistication, and elegance. I simply can’t wait to see their Spring/Summer showings.
